2016-17 Accomplishments

During the 2016-17 school year, did you know………….
  • the Greenwood Community School Corporation was only one of twenty-three school districts in the state to be awarded an “A” by the Indiana Department of Education?
  • the Greenwood Community School Corporation was visited by the External Review Team from AdvancED and earned accreditation for another five year term?
  • for a 5th year in a row, lunch prices have not changed due to strong fiscal management of our lunch program?
  • school district cash balances have grown, enabling significant raises for the staff and providing for a solid financial foundation for now and the future?
  • the school district has established coordinated and intentional professional development opportunities for staff throughout the school year, including the summer?
  • new air conditioning was installed at Northeast Elementary and the high school gymnasiums?
  • that all district computer network operations were moved at the end of the school year over to the new middle school?
  • renovations to the high school pool, gymnasiums, baseball field, softball field, athletic hallway, and locker rooms were completed?
  • Isom Elementary experienced strong improvement in IREAD 3 scores, with twelve students earning perfect scores?
  • Westwood Elementary was named a four star school?
  • Southwest Elementary started a “Mornings with Mom” program that filled the cafeteria as well as the adjoining hallway?
  • Northeast Elementary received state recognition for its robotics team?

  • special education teachers district wide underwent professional development on addressing the increasing challenges of addressing and correcting student behavior?
  • the school district’s lunch program served 370,917 lunches and 102,349 breakfasts?
  • the school district partnered with Clark-Pleasant Schools to share staff wellness clinic hours, leading to higher utilization and savings to the district’s health insurance plan?
  • the school district received an Early Literacy Intervention Grant providing for a strong commitment to Orton-Gillingham strategies for reading instruction?
  • the new student activities complex opened at the high school?
  • the school district started the first phases of implementation for a new phone system district wide?
  • the high school guidance department has been redesigned to include an additional counselor whose main responsibilities will be to operate the new College and Career Center, form partnerships with the local business community, and coordinate K -12 career development efforts?
  • Isom Elementary teachers observed their peers’ instructional practices leading to mutual professional growth and collaboration?
  • Westwood Elementary’s math bowl team placed 3rd in the State of Indiana and 1st in the region?
  • Jennifer Hussung from Southwest Elementary was named the Greenwood Community School Corporation’s Teacher of the Year?
  • Northeast Elementary held Camp Read A Lot and had over 200 parents and students in attendance?
  • the middle school administration and staff prepared to occupy a brand new, state of the art 160,000 square feet building?
  • the school district continued refining and developing special education procedures to ensure statutory compliance and best practices?
  • the school district K - 12 continued its strong relationship with the M.A. Rooney Foundation in helping critically examine student data?
  • the school district had a 100% pass rate for the annual Indiana State Police bus inspection?
  • the High School music department was one of only thirteen high schools that earned the All Music Award?  This was awarded for the third consecutive year.
  • Isom Elementary enhanced its already strong interdisciplinary team approach in assisting with student academic interventions?
