From the desk of Mrs. Santos…..

Posted by on in Isom Elementary News
Welcome Back!  We are eager to get the year started and have many activities planned.

This week I have been meeting in the library with your students to talk about respect and kindness.  I have also been explaining what bullying behavior looks like and how it affects everyone.  I talked about our incentive programs:  Fire Fighter Friday, Chick-Fil-A, Paw Print Awards and Popcorn parties.

Mrs. Wooton is meeting with each class to review expected classroom and school behavior.

Also kindergarten students helped me explain my role as Student Services Advisor.

Funny Glasses-I can help you when you are not feeling yourself.  Big Glasses-I help students see things from a different perspective.  Clown Nose-I help students without being nosey.  Big Ears-I listen to what students have to say. Clown Wig-See me its not a big hairy deal! Continue reading

GW Teacher of the Year

Posted by on in Isom Elementary News
Teacher of the Year….

Our very own, Ms. Amber Ploutz is the Greenwood Community School Corporation teacher of the year. Her great-grandmother inspired Ms. Ploutz to become a teacher and we are so glad she did! Ms. Ploutz graduated from Indiana University in 2005. She started as the Title 1 Reading Specialist at White River Elementary. Her dream was to become a second grade classroom teacher. In 2006 Isom Elementary had a large group of first grade students. She was hired mid year for this classroom and from here it begins! The following year she moved to her dream—second grade! Ms. Ploutz once had a mentor tell her—”There are ways to get the materials you need and want for your students, you just have to look for them and do a little writing.” Well guess what...she started writing and has been very successful. She has received over $15,000 in books, manipulatives, and supplies for her students all from writing grants! Ms. Ploutz is also the drama club director here at Isom.
Ms. Ploutz comes from a very creative and hard working family. She said “ they always taught me to reach for the stars and to never give up” Ms. Ploutz is truly a wonderful teacher and Greenwood Community Schools is very lucky to have her on staff! Congratulations! Continue reading

WOW…. What a busy week at Isom Elementary!

Posted by on in Isom Elementary News
This week was Red Ribbon Week - it was set aside to learn about how to be responsible to ourselves by keeping ourselves free from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. One of the many activities students in grades 1—5 participated in; was a Mix It Up lunch. Mix It Up Lunch Day encourages students to identify, question, and cross social boundaries. We ask students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch. It’s a simple act with profound implications. We would like to thank the following volunteers who helped make this lunch happen for our students: Katy Johnson, Harvey Frye, Richard Craig, Vicki Jordal, Delora Craig, Linda Gallman, Carol Helzer, John Helzer, Joe Kring, Erica Jackson, Gary DeBoard, Bette Hoffa, Alma Ayala, Linda Poyser, Mitch Green, Tricia Bauer, Ashley Nelson, Officer Grable, Courtney Burrelo, and Jose Santos.
