I hope you are enjoying the summer with your family! Being in the midst of our country’s July 4th celebration, it seems to be an appropriate time as well to send you a message about an important celebration coming up for our school community.
As I am sure you are aware, our community has supported the construction of a new middle school! As I write this, we are in the final stages of preparation for the building to officially open to students on July 31st. This is an exciting and proud time for not only the Greenwood School community but the city of Greenwood as well.
On behalf of the School Board, I would like to invite you to an Open House on Tuesday, July 25th. The Open House will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a brief program in the gymnasium. After the program, members of the community will be able to tour the facility at their leisure until 8:00 p.m. Please consider attending this celebration!
The new school is located at 1584 Averitt Road. The majority of the parking will be on the south side of the school, off Stop 18 road. Please enter through door 10S. There will be some parking available on the north side of the school as well. If you park in the north lot, you may enter through door 1N.
Thank you for your support of Greenwood Schools. I look forward to seeing you on the 25th.

This week I have been meeting in the library with your students to talk about respect and kindness. I have also been explaining what bullying behavior looks like and how it affects everyone. I talked about our incentive programs: Fire Fighter Friday, Chick-Fil-A, Paw Print Awards and Popcorn parties.
Mrs. Wooton is meeting with each class to review expected classroom and school behavior.
Also kindergarten students helped me explain my role as Student Services Advisor.

Our very own, Ms. Amber Ploutz is the Greenwood Community School Corporation teacher of the year. Her great-grandmother inspired Ms. Ploutz to become a teacher and we are so glad she did! Ms. Ploutz graduated from Indiana University in 2005. She started as the Title 1 Reading Specialist at White River Elementary. Her dream was to become a second grade classroom teacher. In 2006 Isom Elementary had a large group of first grade students. She was hired mid year for this classroom and from here it begins! The following year she moved to her dream—second grade! Ms. Ploutz once had a mentor tell her—”There are ways to get the materials you need and want for your students, you just have to look for them and do a little writing.” Well guess what...she started writing and has been very successful. She has received over $15,000 in books, manipulatives, and supplies for her students all from writing grants! Ms. Ploutz is also the drama club director here at Isom.
Ms. Ploutz comes from a very creative and hard working family. She said “ they always taught me to reach for the stars and to never give up” Ms. Ploutz is truly a wonderful teacher and Greenwood Community Schools is very lucky to have her on staff! Congratulations! Continue reading
