Early Kindergarten Entrance

NOTE: this is NOT an online application and you MUST PRINT and SIGN this application and deliver to the Superintendent's Office at 605 West Smith Valley Road, Greenwood. 

Indiana statute I.C. 20-33-2-7 establishes a statewide entrance date for public school kindergarten. A student residing in Indiana must be at least five years of age on or before August 1 in order to enroll in public school kindergarten. However, Greenwood Schools will consider appeals to this rule.
  • No student whose birthday is later than August 15th of the state mandated cut off year will be considered for a waiver.
  • Early entrance kindergarten students are expected to be potty-trained.

Applications for early entrance kindergarten may be accessed from the Greenwood Community School Corporation website or retrieved from the Greenwood Community School Corporation Central Office at 605 W. Smith Valley Road, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Completed applications for early entrance waiver screening must be submitted to the Greenwood Community School Corporation Central Office by 4:00 p.m. on June 30, 2023. No late applications will be considered.

Potential kindergarten students will be screened by a Greenwood Community School Corporation staff member on or before July 24. Parents will be contacted by phone to schedule an appointment after the application process is complete. Parents will be asked to bring the student to a testing location. The screening process will take approximately 30 – 40 min. Once the screening is finished and scored, a committee will review the test data and make a recommendation. An acceptance or denial letter will be sent immediately after the committee’s decision.

Parents of early entrance kindergarteners must bring the acceptance letter to enroll at the designated elementary. Do not utilize the online registration. The original birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency must be provided at registration. Contact the designated school for other registration requirements and summer office hours.
