The tornadoes that struck the Whiteland area over spring break impacted many people. Some had homes or businesses that sustained a little damage and others lost everything. Even though this was not in Greenwood, it had a major impact for several of our staff and transfer students that live in the affected areas.
The Red Cross reached out looking for a temporary shelter just after the tornadoes went through that night. When the Red Cross asked if we could help with a temporary shelter, we were more than willing to do so. Thank you to Mike Hildebrand, Chris Sutton, Mark Havens and the many staff members that worked to help organize and open our doors to be of assistance. The Greenwood community donated food, hygiene products, and water. The amount of donations was tremendous from our families. We were able to help move the donation site closer to impacted area after just under a week with the help of some volunteers and our GHS service club members.
This was a complete team effort to help the Red Cross serve those that needed assistance after the devastation from the tornadoes. Thanks to all for the parts each of you played. Our hope is that this served as a positive example for our students on helping others in times of hardship.
